The Era of Ignorance
In today’s society we are exposed to hundreds of millions of components of information through thousands of different mediums. Media is streamed to us through our cell phones, car stereos, televisions, computers, literature and so on. The sheer amount of information available to humans is growing exponentially, making it impossible for any individual to absorb even a fraction of the new information being delivered each day. This trend has lead to a substantial surplus of information available to us through these mediums. Consequently, this surplus has lead to a form of information overload, forcing individuals to become selective in what media they choose to absorb. With this added complexity has come a new form of media, which I will label the Streamline Effect (SE).
This entails the tendency for humans to look for the most efficient and effective way to absorb the greatest amount of relevant information to their personal interests, in the easiest manner possible. An example would be the arrival of multi-platform news media centers, which can reach users through television, newspapers & magazines, podcasts, internet sites and radio streams. The services that these SE components provide are a form of condensed, richly summarized data which is then delivered to the user in a convenient medium of their choice. Due to the ease of use and convenience of this type of service a majority of the users do not question nor verify the validity of the information being provided to them.
In fact, these individuals have become so reliant on their single form of summarized media that they will ignore pertain facts if they conflict with the erroneous and clouded reports provided by their SE service. Hence, we have entered a stage in human life where the facts do not necessarily entail the “truth”. I commonly refer to this stage of human history as the Era of Ignorance. As these SE services have shown us, truth is merely a subjective term that can be placed in various degrees of context, as to manipulate the form of truth it entails. The primary focus of this blog will be to use the concept of the Coherence Theory of Reality (CTR) in a philosophical context to address a variety of issues of interest to me. The majority of these issues will fall under the following headings:
· Business & Finance
· Technology & Innovation
· Society & Culture
· Religion & Spirituality
· New Media
This is not meant to be a solution to any of the issues presented here. As any philosopher will tell you, there is rarely such an easy solution to a complex set of problems. Rather, this is meant to be a stepping stone for a logical approach to a variety of worldly issues. I welcome discussion in a respectful and logical manner, as that is usually the most effective way to bring about creative and innovative thinking about complex issues such as these.
I hope you find these perspectives interesting and insightful.
