The fight is on September 22nd, and no, not on SpikeTV. The card looks pretty bare, though there are two notable fights in the Liddell vs. Jardine and Shogun vs. Griffin affair. Here are my predictions for the main fights.
Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine
Every champ has got to fall sometime. Chuck fell the hardest because he was reveled as the last great surviving UFC champ, and his loss came to a mouthier version of Tito Ortiz. Keith Jardine is an excellent fighter, coming off a disappointing loss to Houston Alexander. His fight against Forrest Griffen was impressive and his game has been improving. However, he does not have the resume or the skill to compare to Chuck. Consider this; Chuck has defeated the premier fighters of the division. He has beaten Randy Couture twice, Tito Ortiz twice and Babalu Sobral twice. Now you may ask what about Shogun, W. Silva, or V. Belfor? That can be logically reasoned out. Tito defeated Wanderlie, Babalu defeated Shogun and Randy has defeated…..well Gonzaga, Ortiz and Belfor. So all in all, if you look at this careful you can easily place Chuck at the top of this list. He’s going to be hungry for that rematch, so this fight is a no brainer.
Prediction: Chuck Liddell
Forrest Griffin vs. Mauricio Rua
Mauricio Rua has been a pleasure to watch in the Pride ring. He has seen impressive wins over Kevin Randleman and Alistar Overeem, not to mention the current light heavyweight champ, Quinton Jackson. Griffin has fought big names including Tito Ortiz, Keith Jardine and his ongoing (relentless) battles with Stephan Bonnar. Though his fights against Tito and Stephan were slightly impressive his decisive loss against Jardine was not by any means impressive. Shoguns win over Jackson, along with his relentlessness should win him this fight.
Prediction: Mauricio Rua
Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch
This fight is extremely hard to call, since both fighters are very streaky in nature. It could go either way really, which makes it difficult to predict. Sanchez is a gritty no bullshit fighter who has come off his fist lost of his MMA career against Josh Koscheck. Jon Fitch on the other hand has had 13 impressive wins in a row. Sanchez has a lot to prove during this one, but I am going to give the nod to Jon Fitch.
Prediction: Jon Fitch
Matt Wilman vs. Michihiro Omigawa
Not much to say here other then Michihiro’s record is less than impressive. His lack of experience will cost him the fight against a more experienced Matt Wilman.
Preidction: Matt Wilman
