This post was a long time coming. The much anticipating super series, a rematch from the 1967 summit, has turned out to be absolutely nothing like the original series. In the original series the Canadians were expected to plow over the Russians. Instead they fought tooth and nail to pull out the victory. The 2007 Super Series was expected to be a close fought battle between the two rivals. Instead the Canadians have made an embarrassment out of the Russian hockey team (if you can call it that).
Not that I am complaining, I am thrilled that the talent in this country is far superior to anything else out there. The series proves that we are not only the best in the world; we are the best by leaps and bounds. Bring on the Swedes or the Fins, it really doesn’t matter in the end. The Canada Junior Championships are coming up in the next couple months, which is always an exciting time. I love Team Canada matchups as they are more exciting then any other sports cup, including Stanley. Team Canada played a superb style of hockey obviously superior to the Russians approach. Below is an overview of the series outcome:
Game 1: CAN 4, RUS 2 (CAN leads 1-0)
Game 2: CAN 3, RUS 0 (CAN leads 2-0)
Game 3: CAN 6 RUS 2 (CAN leads 3-0)
Game 4: CAN 4, RUS 2 (CAN leads 4-0)
Game 5: CAN 8 RUS 1 (CAN leads 5-0)
Game 6: CAN 4 RUS 1 (CAN leads 6-0)
Game 7: CAN 4 RUS 4 (CAN leads 6-0-1)
Game 8: CAN 6 RUS 1 (CAN leads 7-0-1)
