Facebook

There seems to be a lot of media around why Facebook is so popular. After all, its entire design concept is similar (in some ways) to that of MySpace. I asked some co-workers why they enjoyed Facebook. If they where able to produce an answer at all it was along the lines of social networking or simply wasting time at work or home. However, that didn’t sit well with me. After all if we wanted to social network, we would add an online messaging system and talk to our friends that way. If we wanted to be distracted we would go onto more entertaining things like YouTube or the millions upon millions of entertainment geared sites on the web right now.

So it got me thinking, why do I like facebook? Then it hit me….

Navigate the Breakup

Ah, the dreaded breakup. Does it ever turn out well for both parties initially? I recently caught an article in the September issue of Men’s Health Magazine on “Navigating the Breakup”. Being that I just got out of a “complex” relationship I figured I was aptly qualified to write a piece on this. I have had experience where I am the “denial player” and when I am the “we are better off as friends” player. I must tell you, the later is much easier then the fore mentioned.

In the “denial player” role, I had just gotten out of a long term relationship that I hadn’t yet realized was an awful fit. I went through a series of “stages” if you will. I will do my best to navigate this with the help of men’s health. Be forewarned this is not a “dear diary” entry, nor is it anything else but a simple interesting piece on breakups. The reactions are broken up into him and her. The he situation would represent my being dumped from the long term relationship. The she relationship would represent me breaking up a relationship I thought I had always wanted, but it seemingly didn’t turn out that way. I encourage you to see how many checks you get as you read through this.

Exercise Fads

I couldn’t help but make a post about all those exercise fads out there. What is so complicated about loosing weight? Eat right, and exercise. THAT’S IT. Why is society so lazy that everything has to be handed to them?

People spend abnormal amounts of time in front of the computer or TV. In fact the amount of time the average viewer spends looking for the remote in his lifetime is 19 days. I myself am currently in an advanced Detox/Exercise Regime. Is that a fad? Some would call it a fad; I would call it a quick way to loose weight.

Marketing Wonders: Interactive TV Shows

With the YouTube age upon us streaming video has never been so convenient. TV is loosing it grip on society as more people are turning to the internet to watch their favorite shows, whenever they want. They can do so much more on computers then with a TV blaring in the background. What makes computer so much better then TV’s? Well, besides the obvious feature discrepancies the answer is simple; interactive media. Read More…

Interactive Marketing: Toshiba Site Review

In my attempt to stay on-top of all that is technology, I came across a site created by computer manufacturer Toshiba. It is definitely not what I expected from site marketing computer products to customers. It is the definition of interactive marketing and integrating the customer’s demographics into its advertising attempts. It is a great way to get tech savvy teens to choose your product because of the brand, not so much the technology. I don’t presume that I can describe the content adequately; it’s just something you have to check out. I quite enjoyed this site and it provided me with about 15 minutes of entertainment, well worth my while. That is until I discovered its target market was a women ages 21 – 24 in college! Still I enjoyed the design of the site, and I refuse to acknowledge that my party drink is a strawberry daiquiri….how insulting. It’s definitely an attractive marketing medium because of its user interface design and its simplistic view on the ever so cliché “college life”.

Baseball is a Metaphor of Life

I was watching ESPN classics yesterday, and the featured sport was baseball. As I sat and watched players from different eras I thought of them hitting up steroids, getting paid obscene amounts of money, and occasionally actually doing something useful in their professional careers. Baseball is really a metaphor for life, if you think about it.

Broad Utopia Development

I was doing some research on marketing design and website portals and I came across a site titled “Broad Utopia Development”. It is a company who specializes in brand development and marketing. I wasn’t as much interested in the content as I was in the delivery of that content. The page itself is one of the most impressive websites I have ever seen. It seems to incorporate flash technology into every component of its site, but not in the normal, redundant way. The combination of futuristic and imaginary images with the actual content of the site actually makes looking through the site interesting. Web developers should take a not from such a site. This site delivers something that a lot of sites miss out on; seamless user interaction. Check out the webpage at http://www.brandbud.com/index.htm.

Motorokr Z6

Welcome to the evolution of cellular technology. No I am not talking about the iPhone. I am talking about the Motorokr Z6. I have the Motorola Razr myself, and I am extremely pleased with it. A cellular phone stopped being just a phone years ago. My phone now provides me with reminders, a calander, a camera, a mp3 player to mention a few. There are different types of cellular technologies for different clients.

For instance the Blackberry, Palm and iPhone devices are for intensive users who need more functionality, flexability and simplicity in their devices. They are also for those individuals who believe their piece of technology “defines them” You then have a wide variety of price ranges from a wide variety of brands and service carriers. The options seem endless. The motorokr is no different then any other phone in terms of functionality. It offers the same functionality as my phone, keeping in mind some upgrades to the older technology. What has evolved with cellular technology has been the design. The MotoRokr took what my phone (Slvr) can do, upgraded it and put it in a sleeker packages.

In the age where everyone wants to look like the cast of the O.C, image is everything; and a phone is no different. This phone represents one of those many different styles or messages; particularly the tech savey, sleek individual who enjoys multiplatform devices in a small package.

UFC 76 Predictions

 ufc_76.jpg

The fight is on September 22nd, and no, not on SpikeTV. The card looks pretty bare, though there are two notable fights in the Liddell vs. Jardine and Shogun vs. Griffin affair. Here are my predictions for the main fights.

Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine

Every champ has got to fall sometime. Chuck fell the hardest because he was reveled as the last great surviving UFC champ, and his loss came to a mouthier version of Tito Ortiz. Keith Jardine is an excellent fighter, coming off a disappointing loss to Houston Alexander. His fight against Forrest Griffen was impressive and his game has been improving. However, he does not have the resume or the skill to compare to Chuck. Consider this; Chuck has defeated the premier fighters of the division. He has beaten Randy Couture twice, Tito Ortiz twice and Babalu Sobral twice. Now you may ask what about Shogun, W. Silva, or V. Belfor? That can be logically reasoned out. Tito defeated Wanderlie, Babalu defeated Shogun and Randy has defeated…..well Gonzaga, Ortiz and Belfor. So all in all, if you look at this careful you can easily place Chuck at the top of this list. He’s going to be hungry for that rematch, so this fight is a no brainer.

Prediction: Chuck Liddell

UFC Fight Night Predictions

Sorry about the lateness of this post. My schedule has been extremely busy, to say the least. None the less I always make time to flip out a few predictions here and there. The hard thing about the Fight Nights is that besides one or two featured fights, the remainders of the fighters are relatively unknown. Though this does provide a good show since all the fighters are trying to prove something, it makes it equally difficult to predict. My last UFC predictions were not stellar as I predicted correctly 4/6 of the notable fights. The two exceptions are the Crop Cop and Jackson fights, which in my books have the highest weighting. I received some comment on how I did not take the time to predict every fight. This will normally be the case, as I choose the most interesting fights to focus on. However, I will try to throw out some general predictions for those fights below. Here are my predictions for tonight’s fight. Don’t forget the Ultimate Fighter is on right after the show.
